BERLIN (Reuters) - Toshiba said on Friday it would introduce its first two High Definition DVD players (HD DVD) in Europe by November, priced between 599 and 999 euros ($768-1,280), well above prices in the United States.

Polaroid is best known in the photography field, but it seems like the company may be taking a different turn. The company is releasing the MGX-0550, a portable GPS system with a built in DVD player. While most portable GPS systems rely on media players to entertain the consumer, this one relies on disc-based audio and movies to keep the user happy.
While the MGX-0550 doesn’t take any real risks, it comes across as a nice, solid addition to any gadget lover’s collection. Oh, and in case you’re wondering, it doesn’t have a built in camera, which is a bit surprising due to the companies past.

While Sony Corp., one of the world’s largest producers of consumer electronics, said it would reveal its Blu-ray products in June, 2006; the players are available for pre-order now, weeks before actual availability. While Blu-ray players from Sony are more expensive than HD DVD devices by Toshiba, their cost is not as high as expected initially.
