HD DVD vs Blu-ray - Pioneer: No Plans for Dual HDTV DVD Player

Washington, D.C. (September 4, 2006) -- Pioneer says it has no plans to launch a combination Blu-ray/HD-DVD player.
The announcement, issued to several publications covering the IFA consumer electronics conference in Berlin, contradicts earlier reports that surfaced last week.
Hexus Lifestyle, an electronics web site, writes that Pioneer's Brendan Sheridan said the company had no plans for the dual player. He said the earlier reports were based on a "misunderstanding" of his remarks made at a IFA press conference.
"It is still the case that we have no plans to support HD-DVD," Sheridan, a Pioneer product manager based in Europe, told the site.
Pioneer is currently supporting Sony's Blu-ray in the HDTV DVD format war.
